The 5 REAL Reasons You Won’t Commit to Whole30

Day 29/30  of my second round of Whole 30.  And the conversations I’ve had with most people regarding this program go something like this.

“Wow.  That’s an insane diet. I could never do that!  I like my ___________ too much.” 

It’s a simple statement that I have been thinking about since the first round of whole30.  Please know a couple of random facts about me.

 

1.  am a serial “crash dieter.”  You had me at miracle pill, low fat, fat free, low carb, calorie counting,high protein, diet plan.  You created it, I attempted it.  
And I always went back to my old habits. Always. 
2. I am addicted to sugar. ADDICTED.  It’s like crack to me. If I start eating it, I don’t stop.  Late at night, it calls my name. 
3. I enjoy coffee in my creamer.  No, not a typo.  I love creamer.  And it’s usually served with a splash of coffee. 
4. I eat the cake.  I love the cake.  Cake is my jam. And if we are being honest, so is wine. 

 
So what is making the Whole30 plan so different for me?  Aren’t I talking about the weight Ive lost?  Aren’t I resisting sugar?  Carbs?  Sounds painful.
 
Truth.  It’s not.

I decided Whole 30 wouldn’t be about sacrifice. It would be about what I could gain. So when I talk to people about the plan, they usually make a face, that is somewhat of a grimace mixed with confusion and pain. I get it! I mean if I looked at the sacrifices only, that would be my face too!

But truthfully, I feel amazing.  This program is a game changer for me.  And I shout it from the rooftops not because of what I’ve lost, but because of what I gain each time I complete it.

Friends, let’s be honest. Change is hard. But creating health habits doesn’t have to be.  This is about mindset.  So what’s holding you back? Do one of these situations sound familar?  Check my 5 reasons below!

1.  Whole30 Looks Hard.

I cannot! Happy hour with the girls? A cocktail party means a dessert table!  I can’t give that up!

Let’s face it.  If you’ve decided this is going to be HARD, it is.  But quick little gut check on the word hard, K?

Fighting cancer is hard.
Watching someone be ill is hard.
Being medicated for a number of ailments is hard.
Being overweight is hard.
Being unhealthy is hard.

Coffee without creamer is NOT hard.  30 days without wine is NOT hard.  30 days with bread is NOT hard.

You’re perspective on “hard” is going to change with this program.


2. You think it’s a diet and diets don’t work.
You’re right. Diets don’t work.  But Whole 30 isn’t a diet.  It’s about creating habits that will last a lifetime. It’s understanding your relationship with food.  It’s about learning HOW certain foods impact you.  Friends, our bodies were NOT designed to be fueled by chemicals, preservatives, and additives!  NO! We were designed to function on rich, wholesome nutrition. We were designed to use food as fuel, not comfort.  And we weren’t created to diet.  Weightloss is a side effect of this program because your body is starting to function at a premium and because your sense of comfort comes from something more than the snack cabinet.

3. You love your “blankie” called carbs and sugar.
But you’ve earned those carbs! It’s been a rough day, and nothing is more comforting than a little late night snack!  It’s comforting to know that a piece of bread will always be there.  Rough day?  Have a snack.  You earned it.  Ever find yourself mindlessly snacking?  In the moment, sure, it can be rewarding, but how about in the long haul?  The choices you make to comfort yourself now, are a diguise for the way your body is really responding.  Finding other sources of comfort have been a life changer for me.  Daily devotional. Yep. I am there.  Made to Crave.  Oh hello eye opener.  Bubble baths?  Heck yes, that’s my jam!  Smaller jeans! Oh sweet betty now we are talking!
Put down the blankie and find another source of comfort.

4.  It’s a lot of planning. 
It is.  It’s worth it. Moving on.
Ok. One more thing:
You don’t have enough time you say?  Try saying, “my health isn’t a priority,” and see how that feels. You have time.  You just need to better manage it. That’s all.

5. You are thinking about your sacrifices over the gains. 
This one is self explanatory.  But if you are making a mental checklist of all the things that you have to give up, put a line down the center, and on the other side, write down what you can gain.  I assure you that if you really think about it, the gains are greater than the sacrifices.
