COACH SPOTLIGHT SERIES: LANELLE VANCE

I am so excited to announce the coach spotlight this week as an up and coming coach in my organization. From the beginning she stood out as someone INSPIRED to do MORE. Not only is she leading challengers to amazing fitness results, she’s always sweating for something bigger!

Lanelle Vance has been a Beachbody Coach for 5 months and is already a weekly appearance on the leader boards! I was so curious to see what she was doing behind the scenes to grow her business.  Turns out, she’s doing a lot of talking!  Check out what she’s doing to put her business on the map and what this business has given her!

Lanelle, can you share a little about your life outside of being a coach? What are some of your business highlights and accomplishments that you are proud of!

I graduated from Nursing school in 1997, and worked as a nurse in a few different settings for 10 years. I am from Michigan. I worked in Hospice care, school nursing, cardiac care, and as a Bone Marrow Transplant Coordinator at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. I went on bed rest with my first daughter and decided to stay home. She came 5 weeks early and I knew I couldn’t leave her. Now 8 years later, I now have 2 girls, 8 and almost 6. I haven’t gone back to work, but I work part time as a bookkeeper for my husbands dental office. I love to play tennis, read, spend time with my family, and serve God.

Every coach has a story to tell! Can you share with the team a little about how you became a coach? What drew you to the opportunity?

I started as a challenger in August 2016. I wanted to lose some weight and get stronger to prevent injuries on the tennis court. I also wanted to prevent or delay any onset of Type II diabetes. My Mom suffers from it, and all 3 of my older sisters are pre diabetic, or on medication. I had noticed it was getting way more difficult to lose weight, and I wasn’t changing anything but was actually gaining. I knew things needed to change. The accountability/challenge group was a game changer for me. I am a rule follower and if someone told me to check in that’s what I did. Having all the support made things so much easier. I saw great results my first month and just kept on going. After 3 rounds of 21 day fix my coach asked if I would like to look into coaching or at least get the discount if I was going to stick with shakeology. I went back and forth about what I should do. I was intrigued. Then it all hit me. This was a way for me to help people. I was missing that in my life not going back to work as a nurse. I could help people improve their health, but not have to work weekends and holidays.

Can you share a little about the challenge groups you run? How do you help your challengers achieve results? Is there anything you do that’s a bit different than a standard challenge group?
We run our challenge groups as a team with a few coaches. I try to message and respond in the group a lot. I also check in frequently. I see a lot of my challengers at the tennis club. There a lot of women who see what a transformation I have had and have wanted to join in. It’s great to see people have results in person. I am much better 1:1 with people. I ask people to coffee, or just talk to them at the club.

If you could select a motivational quote that inspires you and truly reveals your coaching style what would it be?

“I am a little pencil in the hands of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world” Mother Theresa

What accomplishments are you most proud of thus far?

My first challenger has lost 35lbs. Her cholesterol and many other numbers have improved tremendously and she feels so much better. I have helped my husband loose 25lbs. He had back surgery 2 years ago, and really has had a hard time getting the weight off from being unable to work out for so long. We have become so much closer, and have felt our marriage is stronger because of this opportunity.

Let’s talk goals! Each month we set personal goals for ourselves that are slightly outside the comfort zone and challenge us! What’s a business goal you’ve set for yourself this month? What tips do you have for coaches about goal setting? *

I went pretty big this month! My goal is SC 20, Emerald, and helping 12 people. I feel like we have to focus on the people not the numbers. The actions you do to get to your goal is what matters, and then following through. I feel this is different for everyone. You have to be examine your strengths and go with what works for you. Just like with your food and your workout…everyday is a new day. Don’t beat yourself up over what happened yesterday. Start fresh and go after it!

On the KB we talk a lot about having a WHY that pulls you towards your vision of success. WHY do you coach? What’s driving you forward?

I coach because I want to help people. I understand that we share an opportunity for people to loose weight, get healthy, and strong. But it goes so much deeper than that. We can help change people’s lives! I have missed this since I left nursing. I also feel an obligation to share this with people. If my coach Laura Hart had not shared her story on Facebook, I would not be where I am today. I am so grateful for that, and I feel like I want to be that person for others.
Just for fun, if you could go back to your first week or month as a coach, what would you tell yourself??? OR what mistake did you make then that you can laugh about now.

I wish I would have shared my story sooner….I was so nervous to put it out there.

Thank you so much Lanelle for your incredible story and amazing work! You are truly making an impact!
