My Cancer Journey

Alright, taking a deep breath and praying to find the right words.  First, thank you for visiting my blog, One Fit Fighter.  My blog didn't always look like this.  In fact when I started this little blog two years ago, I thought a few people would read it, find a recipe and share it.  I had no idea that it would become what it has today and what I am hopeful it becomes in the future.

The title of this blog actually was renamed a few months ago when I was diagnosed with cancer.  I received those words on on February 10th, 2014 after I noticed a bump that didn't feel quite right.

After the diagnosis, I remember darkness and a lot of google.  Too much google.  I realized that there was a lot of scary, often disconcerning, information on the web.  I would spend hours reading stories and researching possibilities.  I actually came across very little in the way of how young moms coped with this news.  Yes, darkness is the best word to describe those first few days.

It wasn't until after telling my good friend, Stacey about my Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma that I finally started to see some light again.  I remember saying to her, "Stace- I am a health coach.  Who in the world, when I am sick, pale and bald is going to want me as a coach?"  Without missing a beat, she responded, "Everybody."

I think it was that day that I made the conscious choice to be a beacon of light to those who have been diagnosed, are struggling to find a place, or who just need a little hope.  There are days when treatments are difficult.  There are times when I am angry.  But on most days I feel extremely blessed.

I am blessed by the opportunities I have been given through my company, Beachbody.  I am blessed to have two happy and healthy sons.  I am blessed with a marriage to my best friend.  And I am honored to have such a beautiful support system of friends and family who have been fighting every step of the way with me.

Cancer can be a scary thing.  You won't find fear here.  You will find honesty, compassion, and a coach who believes you  are destined for greatness.

Feel free to explore the site, check out the clean recipes, transformation, and my cancer story, but most importantly, please share my story. I truly believe words have the power to heal and move mountains.
